DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Role of position

  • Ensure that the Fishing Guides work effectively to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime fishing experience for clients
  • Provide Fishing Guide services that ensure client satisfaction.

  • Responsibilities

    Responsible to the Lodge Manager as follows:

     

    • Effectively managing the Fishing Guides and ensure they operate cohesively in accordance with their duty statement and Fishing Guide Handbook.
    • Providing professional fishing guide services in compliance with government regulation, directives of the company and the Lodge Fishing Guide Handbook.
    • Developing and implementing the induction program for new guides.
    • Holding daily debriefs with the Fishing Guides, then developing a proposed Daily Fishing Plan that ensures :  
      1. minimal wear and tear on equipment 
      2. client comfort and safety
      3. fuel savings by avoiding where possible distance travelling 
    • Discussing proposed Daily Fishing Plan, and allocation of vehicles and boats, with the Lodge Manager, or his delegate, and ensuring  the guides implement the approved Daily Fishing Plan including the catching and onboard hygienic processing of fish and crabs for client consumption. 
    • Ensuring planned and well-executed crabbing is a priority for each group.
    • Being an ambassador at all times for the Lodge and striving to achieve team harmony, including being supportive of the Lodge Manager and Directors when communicating with other staff and clients.
    • Working with the Mechanic to ensure all plant, equipment and fishing gear used during the course of providing fishing guide services are maintained in good working order.
    • Ensuring all safety and reporting procedures, standards and equipment for boats and vehicles are adhered to and identify any issues and resolve them with the Lodge Mechanic and the Lodge Manager. 
    • Acting as a role model to other guides with a view to maximising all clients' experiences, including being proactive in helping out the Lodge Manager, including assistance at meal times, and instructing other guides to do same.
    • Making sure guides complete Daily Log Sheets each evening without fail, and discuss issues with Lodge Manager and Lodge Mechanic each evening without fail
    • Working with the Lodge Manager to operate an orderly and fair roster of lock-up duties so that each staff member takes a turn (bar will be closed at 11.00pm each evening except on last night of a group's visit).
    • Identify and recommend cost-effective improvements that can be made to service delivery.
    • Establish and maintain a good liaison with the local people to ensure that ABNL is maintained in high regard within the community.

    Essential REQUIREMENTS
      • Exceptional customer service
      • Successful experience in providing professional fishing guide services
      • Current Drivers Licence with ability to obtain recognition of "H" Endorsement by NT Government.
