Tails From The Lodge December 2006

The last few weeks at the lodge have surely reaffirmed its status as Australia’s premier barra fishing tourist destination.

Some highlights include the visit by the Lowrance/Eagle Pro Team in October and their total catch of nearly 500 barra.

Channel Nine Darwin visited for the second year in a row, and their Wide World Of Sports Barra Challenge yielded 376 barra in just 2 days.

Our NAFA Arnhemland Fishing Challenge was a humdinger, yielding 2 big barra: 112 cm to our own Susanne Marsh fishing with guide Simon Sten, and 108 cm to Kevin Eccles who was guided by Jason Swan. This was followed up with a last day catch of 95 barra.

The great fishing continued into December with cricket-score catches and quality fish. One boat guided by Jason caught 88 barra in one day (top angler being Qld Toyota GM Chris Beuth with a neat half century), then the next day he backed up with another 69 barra.

At the same time BRP Evinrude National Sales Manager, Sam Heyes, National Service Manager, Riley Tolmay and WA/NT rep, Lance Farrow, had an absolute blinder. They fished just a day and a half with yours truly, cleaning up on GTs and big queenfish the first day on the bluewater, then the next day they caught barra as follows: 98cm, 91cm, 90cm, 87cm, 85cm, 80cm, 80cm, and several in the 70s, some casting at snags, some trolling the banks and some actually working lures underneath schools of frenzied, surface-erupting blue salmon. Unbelievably, they were off the water by 12.30pm. See attached pics of their great trip and pic of Susanne with her big one.
